Car

Melnik is well-connected to the Czech road network. From Prague, you can reach Melnik via the D8/E55 heading north. The journey from Prague takes about 40 minutes. Special long-term parking options directly on the riverbank for cruise passengers are limited, so it is recommended to check the parking offers of the respective cruise lines or use public parking lots in the city. Alternatively, you can park in Prague and continue your journey by public transport.

Train

The nearest major railway station is Prague Main Station (Praha hlavní nádraží), which is easily accessible from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with international train connections. Regular regional train connections run from Prague to Melnik. The journey by train from Prague to Melnik takes about 30 to 45 minutes. From Melnik station, you can reach the riverbank, where the river cruise ship docks are located, by local taxi or a short walk.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG), located about 50 kilometers south of Melnik. Many German, Austrian, and Swiss cities offer direct flights to Prague. From Prague Airport, you can reach Melnik comfortably by a pre-booked shuttle service, taxi, or public transport. The journey takes about 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. Due to international travel, we recommend staying overnight in a pre-cruise hotel in Prague for late arrivals or early departures to start or end your cruise in a relaxed manner.

The old town and Mělník Castle can be reached in about 10 to 15 minutes. From the riverbank, the path leads up through charming, sometimes steep alleys and, thanks to its exposed location, offers wonderful views of the confluence of the Elbe and Vltava.

Taxi

Taxi stands can be found at the central market square Náměstí Míru and at the bus station. A trip from the port up to the city center is short and provides a comfortable way to bridge the difference in altitude effortlessly.

Regional Bus Connections

Nearby stops connect the port to the regional transport network and allow for easy excursions into the surrounding area. Regular bus lines also connect Mělník directly with the Czech capital Prague and other sights in Central Bohemia.

Schloss Mělník and the Vineyards

The magnificent Schloss Mělník towers majestically directly above the pier and is easily accessible via a short, charming walk through the historic alleys. This location captivates with the renowned wine cellars of the Lobkowicz family as well as the impressive viewing terrace, which offers a wide panoramic view of the picturesque Elbe Valley and the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe. In the castle's own wine shops and cafes, excellent local wines can be tasted in an elegant, historical atmosphere. Ideally, visit the castle in the late morning to tour the magnificent halls in peace and round off the excursion with a relaxing glass of wine on the terrace before returning to the ship in just a few minutes.

Returning to the ship

The way back to the ship docking point in Melnik is straightforward thanks to its central location directly below the castle and also offers beautiful views of the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe.

On Foot

From the historic Peace Square (Náměstí Míru), simply walk downhill via the paved paths or the staircases directly to the riverbank. The prominent castle towers serve as perfect orientation and guide you safely down the hill back to the pier.

Taxi

Taxi stands can be found directly at the central market square as well as in front of the larger hotels like Hotel Zlatý Beránek or Hotel Ludmila. A short ride will bring you comfortably down the hill and drop you off directly at the gangway of your ship.

Local Bus

The city buses of the PID transport company run regularly between the city center and the stops near the Elbe bridge. From the Rybáře stop, you can reach the port in just a few steps, saving you the steep walk after your city tour.
