Port information & tips for Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the fascinating capital of the Netherlands and a cultural jewel of Northern Europe. The city impresses with its unique flair, featuring historic canals, charming gabled houses, and a vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere right by the water. In the immediate vicinity, the futuristic NEMO Science Museum, the historic Het Scheepvaartmuseum, and the impressive A'DAM Lookout invite you to make unforgettable discoveries. Cruise ships dock at the centrally located Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA), situated directly on the banks of the IJ. Thanks to its prime location, Amsterdam Centraal main station can be reached in only about ten minutes on foot, providing the perfect starting point for exploring the picturesque old town and the famous canals.

Amsterdam is one of the most easily accessible ports in Europe, thanks to its central location and excellent infrastructure. Most cruise ships dock at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) directly in the city center, while some cruise lines use the Felison Terminal in IJmuiden, located about 30 kilometers away.

Airplane

Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport (AMS) is one of the most important hubs in the world and is served directly multiple times daily from all major cities in the DACH region. The connection to the port is excellent, as trains run directly to the main station every 10 to 15 minutes with a travel time of around 20 minutes, and taxis will take you to the Passenger Terminal in about 25 to 30 minutes.

Train

Amsterdam Centraal station is a central European transport hub and is served daily by direct ICE trains from German cities such as Cologne and Frankfurt. From the station, you can easily reach the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam on foot in about 15 minutes, or take a taxi or tram line 26 for the short distance to the Muziekgebouw stop.

Car & Parking

Amsterdam is directly connected to the European long-distance road network via the A1, A2, and A4 motorways as well as the A10 orbital motorway, making it easily accessible for guests from German-speaking countries. Directly below the Passenger Terminal, the Piet Heingarage offers convenient parking options, and specialized valet service providers are also available to take your vehicle directly at the ship and keep it safe for the duration of the journey.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents will generally provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination area—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
