Port information & tips for Ilok (Stop for customs)

Ilok is the easternmost jewel of Croatia and is picturesquely perched above the Danube as a significant gateway to the Pannonian Plain. The historic town enchants with its centuries-old wine-growing tradition and a medieval fortress complex, which is harmoniously framed by gentle vineyards and the wide river course. Cultural highlights include the magnificent Castle Odescalchi with its regional museum, the famous Old Wine Cellars from the 15th century, and the striking Church of Saint John of Capistrano. River cruise ships use the central Pristanište Ilok pier for customs clearance and shore excursions, with the historic center easily accessible on foot in just a few minutes thanks to its prime location directly at the foot of the fortress.

Ilok on the Danube is a picturesque stop for river cruises in Croatia and often serves as a charming station for customs clearance as well as shore excursions. The cruise terminal, a modern mooring on the riverbank, allows direct and convenient access to the historic old town and the region's famous vineyards.

Car

Traveling to Ilok is pleasant thanks to good road connections from the DACH region. Travelers coming from the direction of Zagreb use the Croatian A3 motorway heading east. From Osijek, the well-maintained D2 highway leads directly via Vukovar to Ilok. Ilok is also connected via the D2 to the nearby Serbian border at Bačka Palanka. Public parking is available in the town itself; however, specific long-term parking for cruise guests is less common due to Ilok's function as a port of call.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Osijek (OSI), located approximately 55 kilometers northwest of Ilok. Osijek (OSI) offers connections within Croatia and to some European destinations, making a journey with a transfer from the DACH region easy to plan. The larger Belgrade Airport (BEG) in Serbia is also an option at a distance of around 85 kilometers, though the specific requirements of an international border crossing must be taken into account here.

Transfer from the Airport

From Osijek Airport (OSI), you can reach Ilok comfortably by taxi or private transfer. The journey time is approximately 1 hour and 23 minutes. Providers such as Osijek Taxi or specialized private transfer services ensure smooth transport directly to the river port or your accommodation in Ilok. To ensure a relaxed start to your river cruise, it is recommended to book a transfer in advance, especially for late arrival times.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
