Port information & tips for Krems
Krems an der Donau is the charming gateway to the Wachau and enchants as a UNESCO World Heritage city with a perfect blend of history and modern cultural enjoyment. The picturesque location on the riverbank creates an inviting atmosphere where medieval alleys and renowned wineries harmoniously unite. Right at the harbor, highlights such as the Kunstmeile Krems with the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich and the historic old town of Stein invite you on inspiring discovery tours. River cruise ships dock centrally at the Krems-Stein ship station at Welterbe-Platz, from where travelers can easily reach the lively city center and the striking Steiner Tor during a short walk and enjoy the maritime idyll of the region to the fullest.
The port of Krems an der Donau is a central hub for river cruises in the Wachau and can be reached flexibly by car, train, or via the nearby Vienna Airport thanks to its excellent location in Lower Austria. The berths are predominantly located in the district of Stein, directly at the Krems ship station, which features a modern infrastructure.
Car
Via the Westautobahn A1 and the Kremser Schnellstraße S33, you can reach the Wachau directly from the direction of Salzburg or Linz, while travelers from Vienna use the Stockerauer Schnellstraße S5. Comfortable parking options such as the Campus West parking garage or the P3 parking lot at the ship station are available in the immediate vicinity of the pier; additionally, special Park-and-Cruise arrangements allow for the secure parking of your vehicle during the journey.
Train
The Krems an der Donau railway station is optimally connected to the Austrian rail network and is regularly served by regional express trains from Vienna Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof as well as from St. Pölten. From the station, you can easily reach the ship pier in Krems-Stein in about five minutes by taxi or use the city bus lines, which offer a direct connection to Welterbe-Platz.
Airplane
For guests from Northern Germany or Switzerland, Vienna International Airport (VIE) is an ideal arrival point, as it is located only about 95 kilometers from the port. The onward journey is relaxed via a pre-booked shuttle service or a rental car via the A4 and S5 motorways in about one hour's driving time; in addition, there are regular train connections directly from the airport to Krems.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation.
