Returning to the ship

Cozumel is one of the most significant cruise islands in the Caribbean and welcomes guests at three major piers: Punta Langosta, International Pier, and Puerta Maya. Arrival from Europe is usually via Cancún International Airport on the Mexican mainland or directly via Cozumel International Airport.

Airplane

Cancún International Airport (CUN) is served regularly by direct flights from Frankfurt, Munich, and Zurich and serves as the most important hub for arrivals from the DACH region. Alternatively, the island has Cozumel International Airport (CZM), which is located just five kilometers north of San Miguel and can be easily reached via connections in the USA or Mexico City.

Ferry & Transfer

When landing in Cancún, travelers use a transfer to Playa del Carmen, which takes about 60 minutes via the well-developed Carretera Federal 307 coastal road. From the pier there, modern passenger ferries from the providers Ultramar and Winjet operate directly to the main port of Cozumel in around 45 minutes, from where the terminals can be reached quickly by taxi.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the time difference and the long flight duration, an overnight stay before embarkation in Playa del Carmen or directly on Cozumel is recommended. Numerous hotels offer short distances to the ferry docks or organize private shuttle services to the southern cruise piers Puerta Maya and International Pier, allowing for a relaxed start to the cruise.

Getting around

The port of Cozumel offers a convenient starting point for exploration thanks to its three modern terminals and is excellently connected to the local transport network. Directly after leaving the ship, you will find a selection of comfortable options for your onward journey across the island.

Taxi

Numerous taxis are available at all three cruise terminals to take you safely to the beaches or the city center. The rates can be viewed on official boards directly at the port exit, ensuring transparent pricing for trips within the island.

On Foot

From the Punta Langosta terminal near the city, you can reach the heart of San Miguel in just a few minutes on foot. Guests at the more southerly Puerta Maya and International Pier berths can also easily reach the lively waterfront promenade and the first shops after a short walk along the coastal road.

Passenger Ferries

The central ferry terminal in the city center offers regular connections with modern high-speed ferries to Playa del Carmen on the Mexican mainland. Thanks to the frequent departure times and the central location of the pier, excursions to the Riviera Maya can be organized easily and flexibly.

Highlights & Districts

It is best to combine a stroll through the lively city center with an excursion to the cultural treasures or the paradise beaches of the island.

San Miguel de Cozumel

The charming center impresses with its lively Malecón waterfront promenade and, thanks to numerous boutiques and authentic restaurants, offers the perfect introduction to Mexican island life.

San Gervasio

This significant archaeological site takes you deep into Mayan history and, thanks to its location in the middle of a dense jungle area, is a fascinating destination for culture enthusiasts.

Playa Palancar

This dreamlike stretch of coastline in the southwest attracts visitors with its fine sand and crystal-clear water and is also an ideal starting point for unforgettable snorkeling trips to the famous Palancar Reef.

Useful tips

Playa Palancar

The dreamlike Playa Palancar in the south of the island is easily accessible from the cruise terminals in about twenty minutes by taxi and offers one of Cozumel's most beautiful sandy beaches with crystal-clear, turquoise-blue water. This location is perfect for guests seeking a relaxed atmosphere away from the large crowds and who also appreciate the opportunity to snorkel at the nearby coral reefs directly from the shore. The first-class infrastructure includes comfortable beach loungers, shaded palapas, and an excellent restaurant serving fresh regional specialties and cool drinks directly to your seat. Ideally, visit the beach in the morning to enjoy the peaceful tranquility to the fullest, and plan your relaxed return trip to the port about ninety minutes before the ship's departure.

Returning to the ship

The way back to the port on Cozumel is particularly straightforward thanks to the excellent infrastructure and short distances between the main attractions and the three cruise terminals. Plan for about 20 to 30 minutes of buffer time for the journey so that you arrive at your respective berth relaxed and on time.

Taxis

Taxis are available at all well-known beach clubs such as Mr. Sanchos or Nachi Cocom, as well as in the city center at Plaza del Sol and in front of the major hotels. Thanks to fixed price tables at the official taxi ranks, you will know exactly how much the trip to your specific terminal costs before you depart and will arrive safely directly at the port entrance.

Ferry and Shared Transport

If you are returning from Playa del Carmen by island ferry, you will arrive directly at the central ferry pier in San Miguel and will immediately find available vehicles for your onward journey. From there, you can easily reach the southern terminals Puerta Maya and International Pier within a few minutes by taxi or simply stroll to the nearby Punta Langosta Pier.

On Foot

Guests with a berth at Punta Langosta Pier can walk directly from the waterfront promenade Avenida Rafael E. Melgar via a well-signposted pedestrian bridge back to the ship. At the southern terminals Puerta Maya and International Pier, you can also reach the guarded docking points safely and comfortably through the integrated shopping centers.
