Mosquera Island on the Galapagos is an uninhabited islet and serves as a spectacular visitor site for Galapagos cruises. Arrival at the actual embarkation port for Galapagos ships usually takes place via the main islands of Baltra or San Cristóbal, mostly via Fly & Cruise from the DACH region. Due to the long flight duration, we strongly recommend arriving at least one day before embarkation.
Airplane
Arrival in the Galapagos Islands is via international flights from Europe to Ecuador, primarily to Quito International Airport (UIO) or Guayaquil (GYE). From there, daily domestic flights operate to the Galapagos airports of Baltra (GPS) or San Cristóbal (SCY). Baltra is the most common arrival point for cruises that also visit Mosquera Island. The flight time from Quito or Guayaquil to the Galapagos Islands is approximately two hours.
Transfer & Shuttle
After arriving on Baltra (GPS), the transfer to the respective cruise ship takes place. From Baltra Airport, travelers take a free shuttle bus to the Itabaca Channel ferry. After the short ferry crossing, the journey continues by bus transfer or taxi to Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz, the island's main town, where many ships take their guests on board or where further transfers to the yachts' moorings take place. These transfers are often already included in the cruise package and are organized by the cruise lines.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
For a relaxed start to your Galapagos adventure, an overnight stay in Guayaquil or Quito before your onward flight to the islands is highly recommended. This gives you enough time to recover from the long-haul journey and buffer any potential flight delays. Many cruise lines also offer pre- and post-cruise hotel packages in these cities, which often include transfers to the airport for the onward flight to the Galapagos Islands.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that with your travel documents, you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
