The nearest airports are Sandane (SDN) at approximately 39 km distance and Ørsta/Volda (HOV) at around 53 km distance, both mainly served by Widerøe with flights from Oslo and Bergen. The larger airport Ålesund Vigra (AES) is about 85 km away as the crow flies or 138 km by road and offers direct connections from European cities such as London, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam. From all airports, an organized transfer is recommended, for example through local hotels such as Hotel Alexandra or Hotel Loenfjord, which offer a taxi service, or public buses with transfers.
Auto
Loen is easily accessible via National Road 60 (Rv 60) and is about a 10-minute drive from Stryn. The driving time is approximately 2.5 hours from Ålesund, 4.5 hours from Bergen, and around 6 hours from Oslo. For cruise guests, parking is available directly at the fjord station of the Loen Skylift as well as at Loen Active. Arriving with your own car allows for flexible exploration of the breathtaking fjord landscape.
Pre-Cruise Hotel & Local Transfer
Due to the sometimes long travel times and the remoteness of Loen, an overnight stay in the village or in nearby Stryn on the day before your cruise is recommended. Hotels such as Hotel Alexandra and Hotel Loenfjord offer comfort and arrange transfers from the surrounding airports upon request. For passengers whose ship docks in nearby Olden, shuttle buses run to the Loen Skylift, conveniently bridging the short distance of about 10 minutes.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
