Port Information
Geiranger is considered the jewel of the Norwegian fjords and is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site of incomparable beauty. The majestic backdrop is characterized by deep blue water, steep rock walls, and the famous "Seven Sisters" waterfalls, which create an almost magical atmosphere. From here, visitors can easily explore spectacular viewpoints such as Flydalsjuvet, the winding Eagle Road Ørnesvingen, or dive deep into the region's fascinating natural history at the Norwegian Fjord Centre. Cruise ships use the modern Geiranger SeaWalk, an innovative floating pier that leads guests comfortably and directly into the charming village center, allowing all local sights and the hiking trails to the Storseterfossen waterfall to be reached with ease.
Geiranger, the jewel of the Norwegian fjords, is a spectacular destination thanks to its location at the end of the UNESCO-protected Geirangerfjord and is mostly accessed via the modern SeaWalk pier directly in the village center. Arrival takes place through some of Scandinavia's most impressive landscapes, with the combination of flight, train, and bus guaranteeing a particularly picturesque accessibility.
Airplane
The nearest airport, Ålesund (AES), is located around 120 kilometers away and is conveniently served from the DACH region via the hubs of Oslo (OSL) or Copenhagen. From there, you can reach the port of Geiranger by rental car or transfer bus in about three hours, with the drive along the fjords and over the panoramic roads already representing a first highlight of the trip.
Auto
Arrival by car leads via the Norwegian Scenic Route 63, which accesses the village from the north via the famous Eagle Road (Ørnevegen) with its eleven hairpin bends or from the south via the Dalsnibba mountain pass. Parking facilities for short and long-term parkers are available directly in the compact village center in the immediate vicinity of the pier and the Geiranger Fjordservice; additionally, due to the winding routes, a relaxed arrival with an overnight stay the day before is recommended.
Bahn & Bus
For train travelers, the journey on the Rauma Railway to the terminus at Åndalsnes is an ideal starting point for onward travel into the fjord region. In the summer months from June to September, special connecting buses (Line 220) operate from there, taking passengers via the spectacular Trollstigen pass road and the Eagle Bend directly to the port, thus perfectly combining rail travel and sightseeing.
Check-in & Einschiffung
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your arrival at the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
