Port information & tips for Chichagof Island (AK)

Mobile is the charming gateway to the Gulf of Mexico, welcoming travelers with a unique blend of Southern elegance and maritime heritage. The historic city on the Mobile River impresses with its magnificent Victorian architecture, vibrant jazz sounds, and the flair of the oldest Mardi Gras in the USA. Right on the waterfront, first-class highlights such as the interactive GulfQuest National Maritime Museum, the Mobile Carnival Museum, and the nearby USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park invite you to make exciting discoveries. Cruise ships dock at the modern Mobile Alabama Cruise Terminal, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the city center, thus providing comfortable, walking access to the historic center and the popular Dauphin Street.

The Mobile cruise port in Alabama is a central hub for Caribbean cruises and is primarily accessed from the DACH region via Fly & Cruise. Given the long journey, an overnight stay on the day before embarkation is recommended to start your holiday relaxed.

Airplane

Mobile Regional Airport (MOB) is the closest airport and is located approximately 20 to 30 minutes drive from the cruise terminal. There are no direct flights from the DACH region, so connecting flights via major US hubs such as Atlanta (ATL), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), or Charlotte (CLT) are necessary. Alternatively, Pensacola International Airport (PNS) in Florida is an option, located about an hour east of Mobile and also offering good connections to US hubs.

Transfer & Shuttle

From Mobile Regional Airport (MOB), you can easily reach the cruise terminal by taxi or ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft. The journey takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Some cruise lines also offer their own shuttle services that take you directly from the airport to the ship. Booking these transfers in advance is advisable.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

For a stress-free embarkation after a long-haul flight, an overnight stay in a hotel in Mobile is highly recommended. Many hotels in Downtown Mobile or near the airport offer "Park & Cruise" packages, which include not only an overnight stay but also secure parking for the duration of the cruise as well as shuttles to the terminal. This allows for a relaxed start to your cruise holiday.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually provide a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.

The Alabama Cruise Terminal is located right on the edge of the historic downtown area, allowing you to explore Mobile comfortably and within a short distance.

On Foot

You can reach the charming downtown of Mobile with its historic buildings and the lively Dauphin Street in about 10 to 15 minutes on foot. The path leads you directly into the heart of the city and offers a beautiful first impression of the architecture of Alabama at the same time.

Taxi & Ride-Hailing

Official taxis are available at the terminal exit and will take you quickly to more distant destinations. In addition, you can use ride-hailing services to comfortably reach sights such as the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park thanks to short travel times.

Moda! Trolley & Public Buses

The Wave Transit System offers a practical way to discover the center with the Moda! Trolley. These buses connect the port area directly with the most important museums and shopping districts, allowing for a relaxed ride through the city.

To make the most of your stay in Mobile, a combination of the historic city center and the impressive maritime monuments right on the coast is recommended.

The impressive USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park is located just ten minutes' drive from the cruise terminal and offers a fascinating journey through time on board the monumental battleship and the historic submarine USS Drum. The spacious grounds directly on Mobile Bay are perfect for a history-filled tour and also feature a modern visitor center as well as an air-conditioned pavilion with aircraft exhibits and refreshment options. Thanks to its immediate proximity to the port, you can enjoy a relaxed stay here with wide views over the water and first-class photo opportunities. Ideally, plan your visit for the morning to explore the site at your leisure and return in time for a short stroll through the charming French Quarter of the Old Town before setting sail.

The return journey to the Mobile Alabama Cruise Terminal is extremely straightforward and relaxed thanks to its central location in Downtown Mobile. Since the terminal is located directly at Cooper Riverside Park, you can reach your ship safely and on time from all major points in the city.

Taxi and Rideshare

Taxis are reliably available in front of major hotels such as the Battle House Renaissance or the Admiral Hotel and will take you to check-in in just a few minutes. Additionally, rideshare services like Uber or Lyft can be easily called via app to central locations like Bienville Square to ensure a direct return to the ship.
