Port information & tips for Chichagof Island (AK)
Mobile is the charming gateway to the Gulf of Mexico, welcoming travelers with a unique blend of Southern elegance and maritime heritage. The historic city on the Mobile River impresses with its magnificent Victorian architecture, vibrant jazz sounds, and the flair of the oldest Mardi Gras in the USA. Right on the waterfront, first-class highlights such as the interactive GulfQuest National Maritime Museum, the Mobile Carnival Museum, and the nearby USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park invite you to make exciting discoveries. Cruise ships dock at the modern Mobile Alabama Cruise Terminal, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the city center, thus providing comfortable, walking access to the historic center and the popular Dauphin Street.
The Mobile cruise port in Alabama is a central hub for Caribbean cruises and is primarily accessed from the DACH region via Fly & Cruise. Given the long journey, an overnight stay on the day before embarkation is recommended to start your holiday relaxed.
Airplane
Mobile Regional Airport (MOB) is the closest airport and is located approximately 20 to 30 minutes drive from the cruise terminal. There are no direct flights from the DACH region, so connecting flights via major US hubs such as Atlanta (ATL), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), or Charlotte (CLT) are necessary. Alternatively, Pensacola International Airport (PNS) in Florida is an option, located about an hour east of Mobile and also offering good connections to US hubs.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Mobile Regional Airport (MOB), you can easily reach the cruise terminal by taxi or ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft. The journey takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Some cruise lines also offer their own shuttle services that take you directly from the airport to the ship. Booking these transfers in advance is advisable.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
For a stress-free embarkation after a long-haul flight, an overnight stay in a hotel in Mobile is highly recommended. Many hotels in Downtown Mobile or near the airport offer "Park & Cruise" packages, which include not only an overnight stay but also secure parking for the duration of the cruise as well as shuttles to the terminal. This allows for a relaxed start to your cruise holiday.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually provide a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
