Motril is the sun-drenched gateway to the Spanish Costa Tropical and impresses with its idyllic location between the azure Mediterranean Sea and the peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The city enchants visitors with its authentic Andalusian flair, subtropical climate, and a relaxed atmosphere. Cultural highlights in the immediate vicinity include the magnificent Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza and the extensive Parque de los Pueblos de América with its exotic plant life. In addition, the pre-industrial Sugar Cane Museum offers fascinating insights into regional history. Cruise ships dock at the modern pier of the Muelle de Poniente, from where guests can reach the city center, about three kilometers away, in just a few minutes thanks to short shuttle rides, while simultaneously enjoying the proximity to the inviting beaches.
The port of Motril on the Andalusian Costa Tropical is a charming and well-organized gateway to Southern Spain, characterized by short distances and a direct connection to the coastal region. Cruise ships usually dock at the Muelle de Levante, which, thanks to modern infrastructure, allows for the efficient processing of passenger flows.
Airplane
Málaga Airport (AGP) is the most important hub for guests from the DACH region and is located about 100 kilometers west of the port. The travel time to the terminal is approximately 75 minutes via the well-developed highway; additionally, the airports of Granada (GRX) and Almería (LEI), each approximately 80 to 110 kilometers away, offer flexible alternatives for an individual flight schedule and a comfortable onward journey by rental car or taxi.

The port is excellently connected to the Spanish long-distance road network via the A-7 and A-44 highways and can be reached directly from all directions. Within the port area, there are sufficient guarded parking spaces for long-term parkers, and the specific port access road GR-16 leads you quickly to the check-in area at Muelle de Levante without passing through the town.
Transfer & Pre-Cruise Hotel
As Motril does not have its own train station, rail travelers are best advised to arrive via the ICE hubs of Granada or Málaga and use the regular bus connections or private shuttle services to the port from there. For a particularly relaxed start, we recommend a pre-cruise overnight stay in the nearby city of Granada to visit the impressive Alhambra and reach the ship in just under an hour's travel time on embarkation day.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
