Port information & tips for Samos

Samos is a green pearl of the eastern Aegean and impresses with its harmonious combination of ancient history and Mediterranean natural beauty. The charming island capital, Vathy, welcomes visitors with a picturesque, horseshoe-shaped bay, magnificent neoclassical villas, and an inviting harbor atmosphere that radiates both tranquility and liveliness. Cultural highlights in the immediate vicinity include the renowned Archaeological Museum with the monumental Kouros of Samos as well as the informative Samos Wine Museum, while the historic district of Ano Vathy delights with its traditional alleys. Cruise ships dock at the central port of Vathy, which, thanks to its prime location, allows direct access to the lively waterfront promenade and makes the city center easily accessible in just a few minutes on foot.

Samos, one of the green pearls of the eastern Aegean, welcomes cruise guests to its main cruise port, Vathy, also known as Samos Town. The port is centrally located, well-organized, and serves as an ideal starting point for your exploration of the island.

Airplane

Samos International Airport (SMI), also known as Aristarchos, is the nearest airport and is located approximately 15 kilometers southeast of the port of Vathy. During the summer months, there are direct flight connections (charter) from numerous European cities to Samos. An alternative year-round arrival option is via Athens (ATH) with a flight time of about one hour to Samos.

Transfer & Shuttle

From Samos Airport (SMI), you can easily reach the port of Vathy by taxi, bus, or private shuttle service. The journey to the port takes between 22 and 30 minutes, depending on the means of transport. Local buses operated by KTEL Samou run every four hours and take you to your destination in about 26 minutes. For the highest level of comfort, private transfer services are also available to ensure a direct journey to your ship.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

A relaxed journey often begins with an overnight stay in the destination area. For international flights to Samos, it is therefore recommended to arrive one day before embarkation. In Vathy and the charming surrounding villages, you will find a variety of hotels for a pleasant stay before your cruise. Official, mostly free parking spaces for rental cars are available in Vathy, although arriving early in high season makes finding a parking space easier.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the latest announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
