Port information & tips for Nürnberg

Nuremberg is a fascinating Bavarian metropolis on the Main-Danube Canal and a significant hub for river cruises in the heart of Europe. The city delights with a successful blend of vibrant history and a modern way of life, with the picturesque Old Town and its magnificent half-timbered houses creating an inviting atmosphere. Cultural highlights include the imposing Kaiserburg, the traditional Hauptmarkt with the Frauenkirche, and the famous Albrecht-Dürer-Haus. Ships dock at the Port of Nuremberg at Europakai, which, thanks to excellent transport links, allows for easy access to the city center about six kilometers away and simultaneously offers an ideal starting point for discovery tours through historical Franconia.

The cruise port of Nuremberg on the Main-Danube Canal is a major hub for river cruises and is easily accessible thanks to its central location in southern Germany. The berths for passenger ships in the port area are well signposted and offer a modern infrastructure for a relaxed embarkation.

Car

Via the Nuremberg interchange with connections to the A3, A6, and A9, you can reach the port area in the south of the city from all directions. Secure long-term parking is available in the immediate vicinity of the berths; furthermore, specialized Park & Cruise providers offer convenient packages including shuttle service and luggage transfer directly to the ship.

Train

Nuremberg Central Station is a central hub in the European rail network and is regularly served by ICE trains from Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, and Vienna. From the station, you can easily reach the cruise terminal in about 15 to 20 minutes by taxi or use the S-Bahn lines in combination with the bus service to the Hafen stop.

Airplane

Albrecht Dürer Airport Nuremberg (NUE) is located only about 13 kilometers from the port and offers numerous direct connections within the DACH region. Further travel to the terminal is straightforward by taxi in about 20 minutes or by using the U2 subway line, which connects the airport directly to the Central Station, thus enabling an easy transfer.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents will usually provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
