Port information & tips for Lahnstein

Lahnstein welcomes its guests as a picturesque gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley, exactly where the navigable Lahn meets the majestic Rhine. The town impresses with its romantic location between forested slopes and offers an incomparable flair thanks to its historical half-timbered houses and medieval fortifications. Outstanding highlights include Burg Lahneck, which towers high above the valley, the historic Johanniskirche, and the legendary Wirtshaus an der Lahn. River cruise ships usually dock at the central Niederlahnstein pier, from which the town center and the riverside promenade are easily reachable within a few minutes on foot, providing an ideal starting point for discovery tours in the surrounding area.

Lahnstein, idyllically situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Lahn, is a popular starting point for river cruises through the romantic Middle Rhine Valley and is easily accessible from the DACH region. Ships generally dock at well-accessible piers in the Oberlahnstein district.

Car

Lahnstein is excellently connected to the German road network thanks to the nearby A61, A3, and A48 motorways, which you can reach via the Koblenzer Kreuz. From there, the B42 leads directly towards Lahnstein/Oberlahnstein. On-site, public parking spaces are available free of charge directly at the KD Ticket Office, and there are also paid parking options in the city area. For convenient use of city center parking spaces, you can also use digital solutions such as the Parkster App.

Train

Oberlahnstein station is ideally suited for your arrival by train and is located only about a three-minute walk from the KD landing stage. It is served by the SE10 Rheingau Line, among others, and enables an uncomplicated journey. Another station, Niederlahnstein, is located around 2.2 kilometers from the city center and is also connected to the Deutsche Bahn network, from where you can reach the center of Lahnstein by bus or a short train ride.

Airplane

The nearest major airport is Frankfurt Airport (FRA), which is approximately 123 kilometers from Lahnstein. The train journey from there takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Another option is Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN), which is about 87 kilometers away and can be reached by train in approximately 2 hours and 22 minutes. Various private airport transfer services also offer comfortable fixed-price rides from both airports directly to Lahnstein, which is particularly recommended for international arrivals or if traveling with a lot of luggage.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
