Port information & tips for Berlin-Tegel
Berlin-Tegel is an idyllic gateway to the German capital and welcomes travelers to a green oasis directly on the water. Its location on the picturesque Tegeler See impresses with a relaxed maritime atmosphere and offers a perfect starting point for discovery thanks to charming riverside paths and extensive parklands. Nearby highlights include the historic Schloss Tegel, the lively Greenwichpromenade, and the famous "Dicke Marie" tree. River cruise ships dock at the central Greenwichpromenade pier, from which Berlin city center and its world-famous sights are easily and conveniently accessible in just around 25 minutes via the direct U6 underground line.
Berlin-Tegel serves as a charming starting point for river cruises on the Havel and the adjacent Berlin waterways. Ships depart here from the picturesque Greenwichpromenade on Lake Tegel, a well-connected location in the north of the capital.
Car
The moorings at the Greenwichpromenade in Berlin-Tegel are easily accessible via the A111 city motorway (exit Holzhauser Straße or Kurt-Schumacher-Damm). In the immediate vicinity of the Greenwichpromenade, there are parking options for short-term parkers as well as some public parking spaces in Alt-Tegel. For longer river cruises, it is recommended to consider local Park & Cruise offers or secure parking lots in the area, which often offer a shuttle service to the terminal.
Train
The nearest relevant station for arrival is the Alt-Tegel subway station (U6), which is within easy walking distance of the Greenwichpromenade. From larger stations such as Berlin Hauptbahnhof (ICE hub), travelers can reach Alt-Tegel quickly using the S-Bahn (e.g., S41/S42 Ringbahn) followed by a transfer to the U6. Various bus lines (including 124, 125, 133) also connect the Alt-Tegel subway station directly to the promenade.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), located southeast of the city. From there, the Tegel mooring can be reached in about 45 to 60 minutes by taxi or rental car. Alternatively, public transport is available: the FEX or regional trains connect BER with Berlin Hauptbahnhof, from where you can easily continue to the U6 and thus to Alt-Tegel. Arriving the day before is particularly recommended after longer flights to start your river cruise relaxed.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
