Port information & tips for Beilstein
Beilstein, the "Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle", is considered one of the most romantic places along the river's bends and enchants visitors with its incomparable medieval charm. The tranquil village nestles picturesquely against the steep vineyards and impresses with a historic ensemble of winding alleys and magnificent half-timbered houses. Beilstein on the Moselle is a picturesque stop for river cruises, blending harmoniously into the vineyard landscape and often referred to as the "Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle" thanks to its charming old town. The ship pier is located directly in the heart of the historic village.
Car
Beilstein is well connected to the German motorway network via regional roads. From the direction of Köln/Koblenz, you can reach the village via the A48 to the Kaisersesch exit and continue on the L98 towards Cochem, from where you cross a bridge to the right side of the Moselle to Beilstein. Travelers from the direction of Frankfurt use the A61 to the Rheinböllen exit and then follow the B50 and B421 towards Zell/Mosel. As the historic center of Beilstein is largely car-free, public parking is available outside the old town. A special recommendation is to park on the opposite side of the Moselle in Ellenz-Poltersdorf, from where you can easily take the Moselle ferry "St. Josef" to Beilstein.
Train
The nearest major train station is Cochem (Mosel), located about 10 kilometers from Beilstein, which offers regular connections. From there, you can easily reach Beilstein with bus line 716. The bus journey from Cochem station takes around 18 minutes. Alternatively, a taxi is available for a quick onward journey, costing approximately 25 euros.
Airplane
For international guests and a quick arrival from the DACH region, several airports are available. Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) is the closest airport at approximately 30 to 35 kilometers away, which you can reach by car in about 30 minutes. For onward travel from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport to Beilstein, a taxi is a comfortable option (approx. 60-70 euros). Köln/Bonn Airport (CGN) at around 116 kilometers away and Frankfurt am Main Airport (FRA) at approximately 129 kilometers away are also accessible thanks to good rail and bus connections. For a relaxed start to your river cruise, arriving the day before with an overnight stay in the surrounding area or at the starting point of your cruise (e.g., Koblenz or Köln) can be advantageous, especially for longer flights.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
