Visegrad is picturesquely situated on the famous Danube Bend in Hungary and is one of the most historic gems along the great river. The small town impresses with its medieval splendor and, thanks to its exposed location on the wooded slopes, offers a spectacular panoramic view over the wide valley. Cultural highlights include the magnificent Royal Palace, the historic Salamon Tower, and the Citadel on the summit of the castle hill, which is visible from afar. Cruise ships dock directly at the central Visegrád Mahart Hajóállomás pier, located on the banks of the Danube below the fortress. From here, the town center is within easy walking distance, and visitors can also quickly reach the most important monuments of Hungarian history via picturesque paths.

The port is well-connected, and traveling to the pier is straightforward thanks to its proximity to Budapest. There is no specific terminal structure; river cruise ships dock directly at the Danube promenade.
Car
Visegrad is easily accessible via Highway 11, which runs directly from Budapest along the Danube Bend and offers a scenic drive. Budapest itself is excellently connected to the European motorway network (e.g., E60, E71). For parking, various paid parking zones are available in Visegrad, which can also be booked online. In addition, there is a large, paid parking lot near the Citadel, from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the surroundings.
Airplane
The nearest international airport is Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD), located approximately 60 to 62 kilometers from Visegrad. Thanks to the good road connections, a taxi ride or a pre-booked private transfer from the airport to the Visegrad cruise port takes about 1 hour to 1 hour 6 minutes. Numerous transfer providers are available for a comfortable onward journey. For travelers from the DACH region with longer flight times, a pre-cruise overnight stay in a hotel in Budapest is recommended to start the cruise in a relaxed manner.
Train & Ferry
Visegrad does not have its own train station; arrival by train is via the Nagymaros-Visegrád station. From Budapest-Nyugati, trains of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) run regularly to Nagymaros-Visegrád in around 39 to 45 minutes. From there, it is a short, approximately 5-minute walk to the Nagymaros ferry pier, where a ferry will take you comfortably across the Danube directly to Visegrad. Ferry times are often coordinated with train arrivals, enabling a smooth transition.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
