The Glasgow cruise port, specifically the Greenock Ocean Terminal, is an important gateway to the Scottish Highlands and Islands and is easily accessible from the DACH region thanks to good road and rail connections as well as the nearby airport. Although there is only one main terminal for cruise ships, it is recommended to stay overnight in advance if traveling from afar to start the journey relaxed.
Car
The Greenock Ocean Terminal is well connected via the A8 to the Scottish motorway network, which in turn provides a connection to the M8. From Glasgow, you can reach the port in about 30 to 45 minutes driving time. Long-term parking spaces are available at the terminal itself, which should often be booked in advance. Alternatively, local providers in Greenock offer park-and-cruise options.
Train
The closest train station to the Greenock Ocean Terminal is Greenock Central. From there, the terminal is only a short walk or a quick taxi ride away. Direct trains run regularly from Glasgow Central Station to Greenock Central, allowing for a comfortable journey from the heart of Glasgow. The trip from Glasgow Central to Greenock Central usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes.
Airplane
Glasgow International Airport (GLA) is the closest airport to the Greenock Ocean Terminal and is located about 20 to 25 kilometers away. From there, you can easily reach the port by taxi or rental car in about 25 to 35 minutes. Alternatively, you can take the bus to Glasgow Queen Street Station or Glasgow Central Station and use the train connection to Greenock from there. Due to the often long journey from the DACH region, an overnight stay in Glasgow on the day before embarkation is recommended to start the cruise well-rested and stress-free.
