The Glasgow cruise port, specifically the Greenock Ocean Terminal, is an important gateway to the Scottish Highlands and Islands and is easily accessible from the DACH region thanks to good road and rail connections as well as the nearby airport. Although there is only one main terminal for cruise ships, it is recommended to stay overnight in advance if traveling from afar to start the journey relaxed.
Car
The Greenock Ocean Terminal is well connected via the A8 to the Scottish motorway network, which in turn provides a connection to the M8. From Glasgow, you can reach the port in about 30 to 45 minutes driving time. Long-term parking spaces are available at the terminal itself, which should often be booked in advance. Alternatively, local providers in Greenock offer park-and-cruise options.
Train
The closest train station to the Greenock Ocean Terminal is Greenock Central. From there, the terminal is only a short walk or a quick taxi ride away. Direct trains run regularly from Glasgow Central Station to Greenock Central, allowing for a comfortable journey from the heart of Glasgow. The trip from Glasgow Central to Greenock Central usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes.
Airplane
Glasgow International Airport (GLA) is the closest airport to the Greenock Ocean Terminal and is located about 20 to 25 kilometers away. From there, you can easily reach the port by taxi or rental car in about 25 to 35 minutes. Alternatively, you can take the bus to Glasgow Queen Street Station or Glasgow Central Station and use the train connection to Greenock from there. Due to the often long journey from the DACH region, an overnight stay in Glasgow on the day before embarkation is recommended to start the cruise well-rested and stress-free.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.

The Greenock Central and Greenock West stations are just a short walk from the terminal and offer regular direct connections to Glasgow Central Station. The journey takes about 40 minutes and leads through the picturesque Scottish countryside.
Taxi and private transfers
Official taxis are available at the terminal and take guests comfortably to Glasgow or to destinations in the surrounding area. The vehicles wait directly in front of the exit of the port area and allow for a flexible shore excursion.
On foot
The city center of Greenock with its historic buildings can be reached in about 10 minutes on foot. In addition, the nearby Esplanade offers the opportunity for a relaxed walk with a wonderful view of the Firth of Clyde.

From Glasgow Central Station, trains run regularly towards Gourock, where you should get off at Greenock West station for the port. The approximately ten-minute walk from the station to the terminal is easy to find and will lead you safely back to the ship.

Taxis are available at any time at central locations such as Glasgow Central Station or in front of major hotels like the Radisson Blu. The journey via the motorway takes about 45 to 60 minutes and offers the advantage of being dropped off directly at the entrance to the terminal.

Many cruise lines offer organized shuttle buses, which usually depart from near George Square or the Buchanan Street Bus Station. These buses are perfectly timed to the ship's layover times and ensure a stress-free return directly to the pier.
