Ballinskelligs, a picturesque landing point on the remote Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland, primarily serves as a starting point for boat trips to the Skellig Islands and for smaller boutique cruises. There are no large cruise terminals here; instead, a smaller pier is used.
Plane & Rental Car
For guests from the DACH region, traveling by plane followed by a rental car is the most convenient option. The nearest airport is Kerry Airport (KIR), approximately 78 kilometers or about 1 hour 15 minutes drive away. Alternatively, Cork Airport (ORK) is about a 2.5-hour drive (approx. 166 km), or Shannon Airport (SNN), also around a 2.5-hour drive. Thanks to good connections to coastal roads, a rental car from the airport allows for flexible and direct onward travel to Ballinskelligs. Arriving the day before is recommended for international flights to ensure a relaxed start.
Car
Ballinskelligs is excellently integrated into the famous "Ring of Kerry" (N70) panoramic route and is directly accessible via the R566 regional road. The drive from Dublin takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes (approx. 362 km). On-site, free parking is available at Ballinskelligs Beach and at the pier. Please note that overnight parking is not permitted at the beach parking lot. For longer stays or embarkation, we recommend using the parking areas directly at Ballinskelligs Pier.
Train & Bus
Travel by train is possible as far as Killarney, the nearest train station, located about 80 kilometers from Ballinskelligs. From there, Bus Éireann connections run to Cahersiveen (approx. 13 km from Ballinskelligs), from where a taxi or a Local Link bus enables onward travel to your destination. Bus connections from Killarney to Cahersiveen run three times daily, but local buses in Ballinskelligs are less frequent and only run on certain days of the week, making detailed advance planning essential.
Check-in & Embarkation
