Klaipėda is the charming maritime gateway to Lithuania and fascinates as the country's only port city with a rich Baltic history. The city delights with its location at the mouth of the Curonian Lagoon and offers an inviting atmosphere thanks to its picturesque old town with Prussian half-timbered houses. Highlights include the central Theatre Square with the famous Simon Dach Fountain (Ännchen von Tharau) as well as the mystical sculpture of the "Black Ghost" directly on the water. Cruise ships dock at the modern Klaipėda Cruise Terminal, which is in an excellent location right next to the historic center. From here, guests can easily reach the sights, cozy cafes, and small boutiques on foot within just a few minutes.
Klaipėda, Lithuania’s third-largest city, is a vibrant and historic Baltic Sea port with excellent transport connections and a convenient location. The cruise terminal is situated close to the Old Town, allowing passengers to easily reach the city center on foot. A shuttle service is generally not required unless you have limited mobility or are traveling with a large amount of luggage.
Air Travel
The nearest airport is Palanga International Airport (PLQ), located approximately 28–32 kilometers north of Klaipėda. The journey from the airport to the cruise terminal takes around 37–42 minutes by bus and about 30 minutes by car or taxi. Alternatively, Kaunas Airport (KUN) offers additional flight connections, although it is located further away at approximately 203–222 kilometers from Klaipėda. Travel times from Kaunas range from around 2 hours and 2 minutes to 2 hours and 50 minutes by car or bus. Depending on your departure airport and flight schedule, travelers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland may wish to arrive the day before embarkation to ensure a relaxed start to their cruise.
By Car
Klaipėda is easily accessible via Lithuania’s motorway network. The A1 motorway provides a direct connection to the Klaipėda region. Travelers heading to the TT-Line Terminal (Minijos g. 180) or the DFDS Terminal (Baltijos av. 40) can follow dedicated road signage. Short- and long-term parking facilities are available, including at the DFDS Terminal, where parking fees are EUR 1.00 per hour and EUR 10.00 for 6–24 hours, with an additional EUR 2.00 charged for each extra day. Various parking zones (Red, Yellow, and Green) are also available throughout the city, each with different rates and operating hours.
By Train
Klaipėda’s main railway station is located approximately 3 kilometers from the ferry and cruise terminal area. From the station, the cruise terminal can be reached conveniently by taxi or by local bus routes 9, 10, and 15, which stop at “Klaipėdos centrinis terminalas.” The cruise terminal itself is only around 100 meters from the historic Old Town, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the city atmosphere after a short transfer.
Check-in & Embarkation
