Getting to the Karimunjawa archipelago, a picturesque national park in Indonesia, is an exciting travel combination of flight, land transfer, and ferry for guests from the DACH region. A classic cruise port with multiple terminals, as known from European metropolises, does not exist here. Instead, the main pier in Karimunjawa serves as a ferry port and a starting point for smaller ships and local boats exploring the island paradise. Due to the long journey from Europe, a pre-cruise overnight stay on the Indonesian mainland or directly on Karimunjawa is strongly recommended.
Airplane
The nearest major international airport is Achmad Yani International Airport (SRG) in Semarang, Java. This airport is not served by direct flights from the DACH region but is easily accessible via major hubs such as Jakarta (CGK) or Singapore (SIN). From Semarang airport, it is then about a 2-3 hour drive to the ferry port in Jepara or about 1.5 hours to the port of Kendal. Karimunjawa also has a small regional airport (KWB, Dewadaru Airport), which, however, only offers irregular connections, mostly from Semarang.
Transfer to the Ferry Port
From Semarang Airport (SRG), the best way to reach the ferry port in Jepara or Kendal is by a pre-booked taxi or a private transfer. Several local providers arrange these trips, which take you directly to the pier from where the ferries to Karimunjawa depart. The journey to the ferry port in Jepara usually takes about 2 to 3 hours, while the port of Kendal is somewhat closer. There is no direct rail connection to the ferry ports, so land transfer by car is the most convenient option.
Ferry & Pre-Cruise Hotel
The main connection to Karimunjawa is by ferry from the ports of Jepara or Kendal. From Jepara, both the "Bahari Express" express ferry (approx. 2 hours travel time) and a slower public ferry (approx. 4 hours travel time) operate. There is also an express ferry from Kendal with a similar travel time. An overnight stay in Semarang or Jepara the day before the ferry trip is advisable to make the arrival relaxed and to reach the ferry on time. Many hotels in Jepara are located near the port and often offer support with ferry bookings.

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the shipping company and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
