Travel from the DACH region is primarily by air via international hubs in Indonesia. Travelers first fly to major airports such as Jakarta (CGK), Makassar (UPG), or Manado (MDC). From there, domestic flights are available to Sorong Airport (SOQ) in West Papua, the closest access point to Raja Ampat. Airlines such as Garuda, Batik, Citilink, Lion Air, or Sriwijaya serve these routes. The flight time from Jakarta to Sorong is approximately four hours, from Makassar about two hours, and from Manado around one and a half hours.
Transfer & Onward Journey
From Sorong Airport (SOQ), you can easily reach the Pelabuhan Rakyat Sorong ferry port by taxi or Grab. This journey takes about 20 to 30 minutes and costs between 80,000 and 120,000 IDR. Public express ferries run from the Sorong ferry port to Waisai on Waigeo Island, the gateway to Raja Ampat. The crossing takes approximately two hours, with ferries usually departing twice daily (e.g., at 09:00 and 14:00). From Waisai, the onward journey to individual islands or your accommodation is usually by speedboat or charter boat. Aisandami itself is visited directly by expedition cruise ships using Zodiacs or tender boats.

Due to the extreme remoteness of Aisandami and its character as an expedition destination without tourist infrastructure, shops, or reliable connectivity, careful planning is essential. It is strongly recommended to arrive in Sorong at least one day before the planned embarkation and to schedule a pre-cruise overnight stay. As Aisandami is shaped by a vibrant, traditional indigenous culture, cultural sensitivity is of the utmost importance during the visit. Many expedition cruises combine Aisandami with other remote locations such as Misool to offer comprehensive experiences in this unique region.
