Port information & tips for Lobito
Lobito, located on the Atlantic coast of Angola, is considered one of the most important deep-sea ports in West Africa and impresses with a fascinating blend of colonial history and maritime charm. The city is characterized by its protected bay and offers a relaxed flair with beautiful sandy beaches and palm trees, thanks to the striking, five kilometer long Restinga de Lobito peninsula. Cultural highlights include the magnificent historic station of the Benguela-Eisenbahn, the Museu de Etnografia, and the lively waterfront promenade. Cruise ships dock at the modern terminal of Porto do Lobito, from where the city center and the attractive beaches are easily accessible in just a few minutes due to the central location.
The Port of Lobito in Angola is a major maritime hub on the Atlantic coast and offers a natural deep-water bay. Although cruise ships dock here less frequently, the port is accessible thanks to its proximity to the city center and well-connected infrastructure.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region usually involves a long-haul flight to Luanda International Airport (LAD) followed by a domestic flight to the nearest airport, Catumbela Airport (CBT). Catumbela Airport (CBT) is located only about 13 to 18 kilometers from the Port of Lobito and is the main airport for travelers flying to Lobito.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Catumbela Airport (CBT), you can easily reach the Port of Lobito by taxi, with the journey taking around 19 to 23 minutes and costing between 40 and 50 US dollars. An alternative transfer option is provided by the Benguela Railway: a direct train connects Aeroporto Catumbela several times a day with the Lobito Central Nova station, with a travel time of about 42 minutes. The port itself is only about 2 kilometers from Lobito city center, so the terminal is also easily accessible after a short taxi transfer or a walk.

Due to the long travel times from Europe, we recommend staying overnight in Lobito the day before your embarkation for a relaxed start to your cruise. Various hotels are available in Lobito that offer comfort and, in some cases, parking facilities, providing an ideal base for the final leg to the cruise ship.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your arrival at the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
