From there, you can reach the HafenCity and Steinwerder terminals in about 10 to 20 minutes by taxi or the cruise lines' shuttle buses, while the Altona terminal is also very easy to reach via the S-Bahn lines S1 and S3 as well as the Elbe ferries from the Landungsbrücken.

Hamburg Airport (HAM) is located only about 15 kilometers from the port and is served several times daily from throughout the DACH region. The S-Bahn line S1 connects the airport directly to the Hauptbahnhof every 10 minutes, from where the onward journey to the ships takes place; alternatively, taxis or pre-booked private transfers will take you directly to the respective cruise terminal in about 30 to 45 minutes travel time.

Official taxis wait for passengers directly outside the exits of the Cruise Centers Altona, Steinwerder, and HafenCity. Many cruise lines also organize convenient shuttle buses that take you directly to the main train station or the city center.

On Foot

From the terminal in HafenCity, you can reach the Elbphilharmonie and the Speicherstadt UNESCO World Heritage Site in about 10 to 15 minutes. The walk along the Elbe promenades offers impressive views of modern architecture and the city's maritime flair.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site fascinates with its winding canals and striking brick facades, and also offers a spectacular panoramic view of the entire harbor from the Plaza observation deck. Thanks to its charming blend of maritime history and modern architecture, this location is perfect for a relaxed stroll and also features first-class cafes for an enjoyable break. It is best to secure your access to the Plaza online in advance for the early morning and ideally return to the ship ninety minutes before departure.

Returning to the ship

Returning to your ship in the Hanseatic city is very comfortable thanks to the excellent infrastructure and clear signage at the terminals.

Public Transport and Ferries

The Hamburg transport companies offer excellent connectivity, allowing you to use the U4 underground line for a direct journey to the Überseequartier stop in HafenCity. Additionally, you can reach the terminal in Altona in style with the HADAG ferry line 62 from Landungsbrücken, enjoying panoramic views of the Elbe and the passing container terminals during the short crossing.

Taxi and Shuttle Services

Taxis are available at all times at central locations such as Jungfernstieg, Rathausmarkt, or directly at the main railway station to bring you quickly to your ship. For guests whose ship is docked at the Steinwerder terminal, we also recommend using the cruise line shuttles from Kirchenallee at the main station, as these transport you comfortably and punctually directly to check-in via reserved lanes.

On Foot

From the city center and the historic Speicherstadt, the way to the HafenCity or Baakenhöft terminal is easy to find via the wide promenades and offers a wonderful view of the Elbphilharmonie. The berth in Altona can also be reached in a relaxed manner after a visit to the Fischmarkt via the well-developed path along the banks of the Elbe, allowing you to savor the city's maritime atmosphere until the very last minute.
