Port information & tips for Londonderry
Londonderry, also known as Derry, is Northern Ireland's second-largest city and fascinates as the only completely walled city in Ireland with a profound history. Its picturesque location on the banks of the River Foyle gives the place a special maritime flair and simultaneously combines historical monuments with a modern, vibrant cultural scene. Outstanding sights include the walkable City Walls, the architecturally impressive Peace Bridge, and the magnificent Guildhall. Larger cruise ships dock at Lisahally Port, which is located about six kilometers from the center and, thanks to comfortable shuttle connections, enables quick access to the historical treasures and charming alleys of the old town.
Londonderry, the historic city in Northern Ireland, generally welcomes cruise guests at Lisahally Commercial Port, approximately 8 to 11 kilometers east of the city center, or for smaller ships, at Meadowbank Quay right in the heart of the city. From Lisahally, cruise lines offer convenient shuttle services that take passengers directly to the city center in about 15 minutes.
Airplane
For international guests from the DACH region, arrival by plane is the most common choice. The nearest airport is City of Derry Airport (LDY), about 10 to 12 kilometers northeast of the city center. It primarily offers connections within Great Britain and Ireland. From there, you can reach the city center by bus in around 30 minutes or by taxi in approximately 9 minutes. Alternatively, Belfast International Airport (BFS), about 90 minutes away, or Dublin Airport (DUB), around a three-hour drive, offer a larger selection of direct flights from across Europe. Comfortable bus connections (approx. 1 hour 25 minutes) and private shuttle options to Londonderry are available from Belfast International. For the longer journey via Dublin, a pre-cruise overnight stay may be recommended; direct bus connections (approx. 4 hours 5 minutes) and private transfers are also available.
Auto
Arriving by private vehicle or rental car in Londonderry is straightforward thanks to a well-developed road network. From Belfast, you can reach Londonderry in about 90 minutes via well-maintained A-roads. A highlight is the drive across the Foyle Bridge, Ireland's longest cantilever bridge. Regarding parking at the port, it is advisable to check the offers of the respective cruise line, as they often cooperate with partners for short- and long-term parking. Alternatively, parking options are available near the city center.
Bahn
Traveling to Londonderry by train is a particularly scenic option, especially from Belfast. NI Railways offers regular connections from Belfast Grand Central Station to Derry-Londonderry station, with the journey taking about two hours and leading along the picturesque Antrim coast. Derry-Londonderry station is located on the Waterside and is directly connected to the city center via the modern Peace Bridge, allowing for a convenient onward journey to the terminal.

Please note that your travel documents will generally provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
