Vlissingen is the maritime gateway to the province of Zeeland and captivates visitors with its privileged location right on the bustling Westerschelde estuary. Thanks to its traditional seafaring history and the invigorating North Sea breeze, the charming port city exudes an authentic flair that delights visitors. Cultural highlights include the extensive boulevard with its impressive views of the international shipping lanes, the maritime museum muZEEum, and the historic casemates of the old fortress. Cruise ships dock at the modern terminal at Westerhaven or the Buitenhaven, from where the lively city center and the kilometers-long waterfront promenade can be easily reached in just a few minutes thanks to excellent connections.
Vlissingen in the Dutch province of Zeeland is easily accessible for cruise passengers from the DACH region and offers a relaxed journey by car or train. The port has a centrally located berth, also known as De Kaloenhaven.
Car
Vlissingen is easy to reach via the well-developed Dutch highway network. The A58 leads directly to Zeeland and connects the region with important transport hubs such as Bergen op Zoom and further via the A4 towards Rotterdam/Amsterdam or via the A16/E19 to Antwerp and Brussels. In the city area, follow the N253 and the signs to the port. Short-term parking spaces are available near the port. For long-term parking, it is recommended to use parking lots such as the Parkeergarage Arsenaal or public parking facilities in the city, although a shuttle or taxi to the terminal may often be necessary. A dedicated "Park & Cruise" infrastructure is less developed in Vlissingen for cruises than in larger ports.
Train
Vlissingen train station (Vlissingen Centraal) is the terminus of the railway line from Roosendaal and offers good connections to the national and international rail network, including direct connections or transfer options to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Brussels. From the train station, the De Kaloenhaven cruise berth is only about 1.5 to 2 kilometers away. This short distance can be easily covered on foot in about 15-20 minutes or in a few minutes by taxi.
Airplane
The nearest major international airport is Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTM), located about 120 kilometers northeast of Vlissingen. Alternatively, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) is also an option, which is about 170 kilometers away and offers a larger selection of direct flights from the DACH region. From Rotterdam or Amsterdam airport, the best way to reach Vlissingen is by train (transfer in Roosendaal) or by rental car. Arriving the day before is not strictly necessary for flights, but it offers a relaxed start to the cruise.
Check-in & Embarkation
