Port information & tips for Rotterdam (Harbour tour)

Rotterdam is the vibrant architectural metropolis of the Netherlands and impresses as one of the most significant ports in the world. Its location on the Wilhelminapier peninsula, the so-called "Manhattan on the Maas", provides a spectacular backdrop of futuristic skyscrapers and historic monuments. Landmarks such as the iconic Erasmusbrug, the historic Hotel New York, and the Markthal are in the immediate vicinity, while a harbor cruise offers fascinating insights into the city's maritime heart. Cruise ships dock at the centrally located Cruise Port Rotterdam terminal on the Wilhelminakade. Thanks to this prime location, travelers can reach the city center in a few minutes on foot across the bridge or use the convenient water taxi connection directly at the pier.

The Rotterdam cruise port at Wilhelminapier is easily accessible thanks to its central location and efficient connections, featuring a single, modern terminal.

Car

You can easily reach Rotterdam via the A4/E19 motorways from the north (e.g., Amsterdam) or the A13/A16 from the south (e.g., The Hague/Dordrecht), with clear signage toward the city center and Erasmusbrug before turning onto Wilhelminakade. For parking, Q-Park De Rotterdam is available near the terminal, just a one-minute walk away. A budget-friendly alternative is Q-Park Koopgoot with a "Park+Cruise" option starting at approximately €12.86 per day, from which you can reach the terminal in about 7 minutes by taxi or 12 minutes by public transport. Another popular long-term parking option is available at the historic SS Rotterdam, including a shuttle service to the cruise terminal. It is recommended to drop off luggage and fellow travelers at the terminal first before parking the vehicle.

Train

Rotterdam Centraal main station is a major hub and is optimally connected thanks to fast train links, including from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. From Rotterdam Centraal, you can reach the cruise terminal quickly and easily. Metro line D or E takes you directly to the Wilhelminaplein stop in just about 6-7 minutes. From there, you can reach the terminal after a short walk of 4 to 10 minutes. Alternatively, taxis and ride-sharing services like Bolt are available, taking you to your destination in around 14 minutes.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTM), located only about 9 to 10 kilometers from the cruise terminal. Transfers by taxi or ride-sharing services like Bolt are efficient and take only about 14 to 22 minutes, with costs starting from approx. €21.50. For international travelers from the DACH region, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) is the primary choice. From Schiphol, you can reach Rotterdam Centraal in just 26 to 45 minutes by direct train. From there, it is another 6-7 minutes by metro to Wilhelminaplein. A private transfer or taxi from Schiphol to the Cruise Terminal Rotterdam takes about 60 minutes and costs approx. €95. For a relaxed embarkation, especially after long-haul flights, we recommend arriving the day before and staying overnight in one of the numerous hotels in Rotterdam, many of which are in the immediate vicinity of the terminal.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually provide a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
