IJmuiden is the maritime gateway to the Dutch metropolis of Amsterdam and impresses with its prime location directly on the North Sea. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the massive IJmuiden Locks, as well as the fascinating Bunker Museum and the expansive Kennemerstrand. Cruise ships dock at the comfortable Felison Cruise Terminal, from which travelers can reach the vibrant heart of Amsterdam in about 45 minutes thanks to efficient shuttle buses or public transportation. This makes it ideal to combine the maritime atmosphere of the coast with the cultural richness of the canal city.
The port of Ijmuiden is strategically located at the mouth of the North Sea Canal and, with the Felison Terminal and the Felison Cruise Terminal, offers a straightforward infrastructure for departures toward Northern Europe. Thanks to its direct coastal location, guests benefit from a quick exit to the open sea while simultaneously enjoying good connections to the Dutch transport network.
Car
Via the A9 and A22 motorways, Ijmuiden is excellently connected to the European long-distance road network and can be reached from Western Germany, for example, in around three to four hours. Guarded long-term parking spaces for cruise guests are available directly at the terminals, guaranteeing safe storage for your vehicle and enabling short distances for luggage to the check-in.
Airplane
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) is located just 30 kilometers from the port and is served directly several times a day from numerous cities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The onward journey to the ship is comfortable by taxi or via the shuttle buses offered by many cruise lines, with the journey taking about 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.
Train & Transfer
Travelers by train first reach Amsterdam Central Station (Centraal), which serves as an important hub for ICE trains from the DACH region. For the onward journey to the terminal, we recommend taking the train to Amsterdam Sloterdijk station and from there using bus line 382, which brings passengers directly near the ship berths and thus enables a flexible arrival.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination area—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
