Port information & tips for Strasbourg
Strasbourg is the enchanting capital of Alsace and a significant cultural hub directly on the banks of the Rhine. The city impresses with its unique mix of French savoir-vivre and German half-timbered architecture, giving it an incomparably romantic atmosphere. Absolute highlights include the imposing Strasbourg Cathedral with its famous astronomical clock, the picturesque "Petite France" district, and the magnificent Palais Rohan. River cruise ships usually dock at the Gare Fluviale in Rue du Havre, from where the historic old town is about four kilometers away. Thanks to the excellent connection to tram line D or convenient shuttle buses, visitors can reach the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site quickly and comfortably.
Strasbourg is a major starting point for river cruises on the Rhine and is easily accessible from the DACH region thanks to its location near the border. Ships usually dock centrally at the Gare Fluviale on the Quai des Belges, which is only a few kilometers from the historic city center.
Car
Via the A5 motorway on the German side or the A35 in France, you can reach Strasbourg directly and arrive at the berths on Quai des Belges conveniently via the Europe Bridge. Guarded long-term parking is available directly at the port and in the surrounding area; additionally, many cruise lines offer comfortable Park & Cruise options with shuttle transfers to the ship.
Train
Strasbourg Gare Centrale station is a central hub in the European high-speed network and offers regular ICE and TGV direct connections from cities such as Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Munich. From the station, you can reach the terminal in about 15 minutes by taxi or take tram line D towards Kehl, which takes you directly to the Port du Rhin stop in the immediate vicinity of the berths.
Airplane
Strasbourg Airport (SXB) is located around 15 kilometers from the port and is connected to the main station in just 9 minutes via a shuttle train. Alternatives include Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB), approximately 45 kilometers away, or EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL), from which you can reach the cruise port comfortably by transfer service or rental car.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Please plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
