Returning to the ship
Douarnenez, a picturesque port in Brittany, is easily accessible thanks to good road connections and proximity to local train stations and airports. Cruise ships usually anchor off the port, and guests are tendered to the historic Port-Rhu, which is located just 500 meters from the city center.
Car
You can easily reach Douarnenez via the N165, a major national road connecting Brest in the north with Nantes in the southeast. From this route, you can reach the port directly via Quimper. The N164 also provides a connection towards Rennes. For travelers from the DACH region, arrival via Paris (approx. 6 hours travel time) or Rennes (approx. 2 hours) is possible. In Douarnenez itself, several parking options are available near the harbor and in the city center, including guarded parking lots.
Train
Since Douarnenez does not have its own train station, the nearest relevant station is Quimper, approximately 17 to 26 kilometers away. Quimper station is well-connected to the French rail network and offers connections to other French cities. From Quimper station, you can easily reach Douarnenez by public bus in about 28 to 40 minutes. Alternatively, taxis are available to take you to the port in around 24 minutes.
Airplane
For arrival by plane, Quimper Bretagne Airport (UIP) and Brest Bretagne Airport (BES) are available. Quimper Airport (UIP) is the closest at only about 18 to 20 kilometers away and a 20- to 30-minute taxi ride from Douarnenez. Brest Bretagne Airport (BES) is located approximately 39 to 72 kilometers to the north and can be reached in about one hour's drive. From Brest, there are both domestic flights and some international connections. For international long-haul flights, we recommend arriving the day before embarkation due to the flight time, to start your cruise experience relaxed.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
