Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the Romanesque church of Saint-Nicolas, the architecturally striking suspension bridge over the Rhône, and the historic town center with its winding alleys. Châteauneuf-du-Rhône is a popular port of call for river cruises on the Rhône and, thanks to its location in Provence, is well connected to the French transport network. The embarkation points are usually centrally located in the village and easy to reach.
Car
Traveling by car is particularly convenient, as Châteauneuf-du-Rhône is located directly on the A7 motorway, the so-called "Autoroute du Soleil". From here, it is only a few minutes' drive to the village center and the moorings. Parking for the duration of the cruise is often available near the moorings or through the respective cruise lines, and sometimes through local providers.
Train
The nearest train station is Montélimar, which is only about 10 kilometers from Châteauneuf-du-Rhône. Good regional train connections are available from there. For travelers from the DACH region, the Avignon TGV station is also an excellent option, located about 60 kilometers to the south and offering direct connections from Germany. From Montélimar or Avignon TGV, you can easily reach the pier in Châteauneuf-du-Rhône by taxi or regional bus.
Airplane
The nearest major airport is Avignon-Provence Airport (AVN), which is around 60 kilometers away. It primarily offers domestic connections. For international arrivals from the DACH region, Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport (LYS) at a distance of approximately 180 kilometers or Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) at approximately 150 kilometers are the more relevant options. From Lyon or Marseille, there are good train connections to Montélimar or Avignon, from where a short transfer to the port is necessary. Arriving the day before is recommended for flights to Lyon or Marseille to ensure a relaxed start to the river cruise.
Check-in & Embarkation
