Among the most significant sights are the majestic Château de Caen, the historic Abbaye-aux-Hommes, and the renowned Mémorial de Caen. Depending on their size, cruise ships use the berths at the central Quai de Juillet right in the heart of the city or dock at the Terminal de Croisière in nearby Ouistreham. Thanks to efficient shuttle connections, guests can reach the center within a short time to immediately enjoy Norman hospitality and cultural treasures.
The cruise port of Caen-Ouistreham in Normandy is easily accessible thanks to its good connections to the French road network and efficient transfer options. Cruise ships usually dock at special quays in Ouistreham, which offer direct access and often shuttle services.
Car
Travel to the port of Ouistreham is convenient via the French motorway network. From Paris, take the A13 and then follow the signs for "Ouistreham/Car Ferry" (exit "Porte d'Angleterre") from the Caen bypass. Secure short-term and long-term parking spaces are available directly at the ferry terminal in Ouistreham, which are also video-monitored and offer variable rates, for example around €17.40 for 24 hours or €25 for seven days. Please note that the city center of Caen is located within a low emission zone (ZFE), but the port area in Ouistreham is not.
Train
The nearest relevant train station is Gare de Caen, located centrally in Caen and about 15 to 18 kilometers from the port in Ouistreham. From there, you can easily reach the Ouistreham ferry terminal (Moulin Carnot or Gare Maritime stop) with the Twisto bus line 12 in about 30 to 34 minutes. Alternatively, taxis provide a quick connection in about 13 to 20 minutes for approximately €30 to €40. In addition, private transfer services are available, enabling a direct journey from the station to the terminal.
Airplane
For international arrivals, Caen-Carpiquet Airport (CFR) is the nearest airport, about 17 to 22.7 kilometers from the port of Ouistreham. From there, transfer options include taxis or private transport services offering a direct connection to the port. Arrival via larger international airports such as Paris (CDG or ORY) is also possible, but requires a longer transfer time (approx. 3 hours by car from Paris to Ouistreham). For longer flights, we recommend an overnight stay in a hotel in Caen or Ouistreham to start your cruise in a relaxed manner.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
