Port information & tips for Bastia (Corsica)
Bastia is the charming gateway to the north of Corsica and enchants visitors with a blend of historic splendor and authentic Mediterranean flair. The city is picturesquely situated between the azure sea and Cap Corse, with the old town and its sun-yellow facades radiating a warm invitation. Highlights include the imposing Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the spacious Place Saint-Nicolas, and the historic Vieux Port with its cozy cafes. In addition, the majestic Terra-Nova Citadel offers a fantastic view over the coast. Cruise ships dock at the central Port de Commerce, which, thanks to its excellent location, allows for a convenient walk of just a few minutes directly into the pulsing heart of the port city.
The port of Bastia is one of the most important ports of call in Corsica and, thanks to its central location and good connections by plane and ferry, is easily accessible for travelers from the DACH region. The terminals are located in the immediate vicinity of the lively city center, allowing short distances for embarkation and initial exploration.
Auto
Arrival with your own vehicle to Corsica is always by ferry, for example from Genua, Livorno, or Marseille to Bastia. There are no highways on Corsica itself, but the road network is well-developed, even if winding routes are to be expected, especially inland. The port in Bastia is perfectly signposted via the main traffic arteries such as the T11/N193 and is easy to find. Parking facilities, including pre-boarding parking spaces (P1-P9), are available at the port for travelers with vehicles.
Flugzeug
The nearest airport is Bastia-Poretta (BIA), located around 16 to 22 kilometers south of the city. There are various convenient options for transferring to the port: A shuttle bus connects the airport with Bastia city center and takes about 30 to 50 minutes at a cost of approximately 10 Euro. Alternatively, a taxi will take you to the port in about 17 to 20 minutes, with costs ranging from 50 to 65 Euro. There is also a train connection from the nearby U Borgu station to Bastia main station, with a travel time of about 27 to 31 minutes and costs of 14 to 20 Euro. Arriving one day before embarkation is recommended to start your vacation relaxed.
Bahn
Bastia station (Gare de Bastia) is extremely conveniently located in the immediate vicinity of the cruise port, often specified as 0 km distance. This allows for a very short and comfortable walk to the terminal. The Corsican narrow-gauge railway network also connects Bastia with other cities on the island, such as Ajaccio and Calvi, enabling easy onward travel within Corsica. In addition, local bus connections ensure easy accessibility to the port from the city center and the train station.
Check-in & Einschiffung
Please note that your travel documents usually contain a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the cruise: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
