Port information & tips for Huy
Huy is a picturesque gem in the Walloon province of Liège and enchants as a stop steeped in history along the Meuse. The city combines medieval charm with an impressive river landscape and offers an authentic Belgian experience thanks to its winding alleys and imposing fortress architecture. Architectural highlights include the citadel perched high above the city, the Fort de Huy, and the magnificent Gothic collegiate church of Notre-Dame with its famous rose window "Li Rondia". River cruise ships dock directly at the centrally located Quai de Namur, from where the historic old town, the lively Grand Place, and all major sights can be easily reached on foot in just a few minutes.
Huy, picturesquely situated on the Meuse in Belgium, is a charming starting point for river cruises. The moorings are centrally located in the city, near the collegiate church and the tourist information office, ensuring easy accessibility.
Car
Thanks to its location in Wallonia, Huy is well connected to the Belgian motorway network. Via the A15 motorway (E42), which runs around 9 kilometers north of the city, you can easily reach Huy from the direction of Liège, Namur, and Charleroi. Those arriving from Germany often use the E40 towards Namur and then switch to the E42 until the Huy exit (Exit 8). In Huy itself, you will find numerous free parking options in the city center and the surrounding area, including at the "Port de la Neuve Voie" and on "Chaussée Napoléon". Some zones are designated as blue zones requiring a parking disc (Monday to Saturday, 9 am - 6 pm), and there are also paid options such as the "Rampe d'Orval" parking garage for longer stays.
Train
Huy station is located directly on the Liège-Namur railway line and thus offers good connections within Belgium. From larger stations like Liège-Guillemins, you can reach Huy by direct train in about 48 minutes. From Huy station, a short walk of about 15-20 minutes, a local bus, or a taxi will take you comfortably to the river pier at Quai de Namur, which is centrally located in the town.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Liège Airport (LGG), approximately 25 kilometers from Huy. A taxi ride takes around 20 minutes and costs between 65 and 80 euros. Alternatively, bus line 85 offers a connection in about 59 minutes. Brussels-Charleroi Airport (CRL) is about 59 kilometers away and can be reached by car in about 37 minutes. For guests from the DACH region, Brussels-Zaventem Airport (BRU) is also an option, around 79 kilometers away, from where you can reach Huy via a train connection through Liège-Guillemins. When arriving by plane, especially for longer journeys, we recommend staying overnight in Huy the day before to start your river cruise relaxed.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
