Port information & tips for Champagne Bay (Espiritu-Santo)

Champagne Bay on Espiritu Santo is a true jewel of Vanuatu, boasting a striking horseshoe shape and its namesake, gently bubbling waters. This paradisiacal location offers an unforgettable South Seas flair and simultaneously delights with the neighboring Lonnoc Beach and the fascinating Nanda Blue Hole in the hinterland. Cruise ships drop anchor in this picturesque bay, so guests arrive directly at the Champagne Bay Beach Landing by tender boat. Thanks to this prime location, colorful markets are situated right on the shore, and the connection to the coastal road also allows for relaxed excursions to Luganville, located around 50 kilometers away, to enjoy authentic island life to the fullest.

Champagne Bay on Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu is an idyllic natural destination that cruise passengers typically reach as part of a longer journey via Fly & Cruise. Since it is a pristine bay, there are no classic terminals; landing usually takes place by tender boat. Arriving the day before is recommended due to the long flight time.

Airplane

Travel from the DACH region typically involves several stopovers, for example via international hubs such as Singapore, Sydney, or Auckland, before taking a connecting flight to Vanuatu. The nearest airport is Santo-Pekoa International Airport (SON) near Luganville on Espiritu Santo. Direct flights to Santo-Pekoa are available from Port Vila (VLI), the capital of Vanuatu, among others.

Transfer & Shuttle

From Santo-Pekoa International Airport (SON) to Champagne Bay, the travel time is approximately 45 minutes to one hour, with a large part of the route leading over unpaved roads. Many cruise lines organize group transfers or local taxis for excursions, as the bay is developed for tourism. It is recommended to book transfers in advance or arrange them through the cruise line, as public transportation is limited.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long international journey and the remote location, an overnight stay in Port Vila or Luganville is recommended before your cruise actually begins. In Luganville, the nearest town to the port, there are some charming accommodations that allow for a relaxed start to your South Seas adventure and also offer the opportunity to explore the island in advance.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
