Port information & tips for Saipan

Saipan is the radiant heart of the Northern Mariana Islands, welcoming travelers with a fascinating blend of untouched nature and history-steeped culture. The island captivates with its tropical flair, crystal-clear water, and a relaxed atmosphere that delights immediately thanks to the warm hospitality. First-class highlights in the immediate vicinity include the American Memorial Park, the dreamlike Micro Beach, and the island paradise of Managaha Island, which is quickly reachable by boat. Cruise ships dock at Charlie Dock in the Port of Saipan, located in the Puerto Rico district. From here, the lively center of Garapan is only about three kilometers away and can be reached comfortably within a few minutes thanks to regular shuttle connections and taxis.

Saipan, an island in the western Pacific, is a unique destination for cruises, primarily reached from the DACH region by plane. Due to the geographical location and the long journey, arriving at least one day before the scheduled embarkation is recommended. The cruise port is usually located near Saipan Capital and is easily accessible from the airport.

Airplane

Saipan International Airport (SPN), also known as Francisco C. Ada Airport, is the only airport on the island and is located about 10 to 15 kilometers south of the expected cruise pier. There are no direct flights from Europe, so connecting flights, often via Asian hubs such as Seoul (ICN), Tokyo (NRT), or Manila (MNL), are necessary. The flight time can be 20 hours or more with stopovers. Arriving one day before embarkation is strongly recommended to start your cruise experience relaxed.

Transfer & Shuttle

From Saipan International Airport, you can easily reach the cruise port or your pre-cruise hotel by taxi or hotel shuttle. The journey takes about 15 to 25 minutes depending on traffic and the exact location of the pier. Many larger hotels on Saipan also offer their own transfer services, which can be used as part of a booking. It is advisable to organize transfers in advance to ensure a smooth arrival.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Given the long flight and the time difference, staying overnight in a pre-cruise hotel on Saipan is an excellent way to arrive relaxed and acclimate. Numerous hotels and resorts are located along the west coast, especially near Garapan, which also offers tourist attractions and restaurants. Many of these accommodations are well connected to the airport and the port, and some offer parking if you wish to explore the island beforehand with a rental car.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
