Port information & tips for Port Denarau
Port Denarau is the exclusive gateway to the Fijian islands and the vibrant tourist center of the main island, Viti Levu. The modern marina impresses with a luxurious flair, lined with first-class resorts, elegant yachts, and a lively promenade featuring numerous boutiques and top-tier restaurants. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the Big Bula Waterpark, the renowned Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, and the colorful Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple in neighboring Nadi. Cruise passengers usually reach the Port Denarau Terminal comfortably by tender boat, from where the city center, about six kilometers away, can be reached easily in just a few minutes thanks to short taxi rides or the local Bula Bus.
Port Denarau in Fiji is a conveniently accessible starting point for cruises in the South Pacific thanks to its direct connection to Nadi International Airport. The modern marina area serves as a central hub for embarkation, where ships dock directly at the pier and passengers have immediate access to the shops and restaurants of the marina area.
Airplane
Nadi International Airport (NAN) is the nearest airport and is located only about 7.5 to 14 kilometers from Port Denarau. From the DACH region, you can reach Nadi with long-haul flights, usually with stopovers. Due to the long flight duration, it is recommended to arrive at least one day before the planned embarkation.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Nadi International Airport, you can comfortably reach the port by taxi or private transfer; the journey takes about 16 to 25 minutes depending on traffic. Numerous local providers offer shuttle services, and some cruise lines also offer free bus transfers from hotels in Nadi/Denarau/Wailoaloa to Port Denarau as part of their cruise packages. Access to the port is via Queens Road and Denarau Road, which lead directly to Denarau Island.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
For a relaxed start to your cruise, an overnight stay in one of the numerous resorts on Denarau Island is recommended, as they are located in the immediate vicinity of the port. Hotels such as the Sofitel, Sheraton, or Hilton offer luxurious amenities and are often within walking distance of the terminal or reachable with the practical Bula Bus. A large parking garage at Port Denarau Marina also offers parking for self-drivers, with the first hour being free and longer parking times subject to a fee (approx. FJ$3 for 1-3 hours, up to FJ$25 for a full day).
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
