Returning to the ship

Levuka on Ovalau, Fiji, welcomes cruise ships to its historic harbor right in the charming city center, allowing for convenient access to the sights. Since Levuka is located on a smaller island, travel from the DACH region typically takes the form of a fly-and-cruise trip, which requires careful planning.

Airplane

Your journey to Fiji usually begins with a long-haul flight to Nadi International Airport (NAN) on the main island of Viti Levu. Connecting flights are available from European airports, reaching Fiji after a long flight time. Nadi International Airport serves as Fiji's most important international hub and is the starting point for your onward journey to Ovalau.

Transfer & Ferry

Getting to Levuka from Viti Levu requires a combination of land and sea transport. From Nadi International Airport (NAN), you can take an express bus to Suva, the capital of Fiji—a journey that takes about 3.5 to 4 hours and costs around 16 to 30 Fijian dollars. Alternatively, Fiji Airways offers domestic flights between Nadi and Suva/Nausori. From Suva, the journey continues with a combined bus and ferry connection to Levuka. Buses run from the Western Bus Stand in Suva to Natovi Landing (approx. 2 hours), from where a ferry takes you directly to the Levuka Wharf on Ovalau in about 1.5 hours. The total transfer time from Suva to Levuka is approximately 3.5 to 4.5 hours, with costs per person ranging from about 25 to 35 Fijian dollars. Please note that domestic flights to Ovalau are currently suspended, making the bus and ferry connection the primary option.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey and potential time difference, it is highly recommended to arrive in Fiji at least one day before embarkation. Staying overnight at a hotel in Nadi or Suva allows for a relaxed arrival, flexible onward travel planning, and also provides the opportunity to acclimatize. Many hotels in the larger cities also offer practical transfer options.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents will generally specify a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled for about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the latest announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
