Cruise port Kadavu

Kadavu is a picturesque archipelago in Fiji that serves exclusively as a port of call for cruises, as ships anchor offshore and bring guests ashore by tender boat. A traditional "cruise terminal" for embarkation from the DACH region does not exist on Kadavu, nor are there highways, train stations, or extensive parking facilities for cruise passengers. Cruises to Kadavu typically start from larger ports such as Sydney, Brisbane, or Auckland. For travelers who wish to reach Kadavu individually, or for general orientation regarding the accessibility of this idyllic island, the following arrival options are relevant.

Airplane

Arrival from the DACH region typically involves long-haul flights to Nadi International Airport (NAN) on Fiji's main island of Viti Levu. From Nadi, Fiji Airways (Fiji Link) offers direct flights several times a week to the domestic Kadavu Airport (KDV), also known as Vunisea Airport or Namalata Airport. The flight takes about 50 minutes and already offers breathtaking views of the coral reefs. Please note that Kadavu Airport is small and has minimal facilities. Taxis are rarely found there, so it is advisable to organize a transfer to your accommodation on Kadavu in advance.

Ferry

An alternative, albeit significantly longer, way to reach Kadavu is by ferry from Suva, the capital of Fiji on Viti Levu. Goundar Shipping operates a ferry service (e.g., with the "Lomaiviti Princess") to Kadavu, which runs once or twice a week and calls at Vunisea or Kavala Bay. The crossing can take between 4 and 13 hours depending on the route and conditions. The ferry terminals in Suva are located, for example, at Narain Wharf in Walu Bay. On Kadavu itself, onward transport from the arrival points is mainly by boat, as the island has only a few roads.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long international flight times from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to Fiji and the required domestic connection to Kadavu, an overnight stay on Viti Levu before traveling onward is highly recommended. This allows for a relaxed start and minimizes the risk of missing the connecting flight to Kadavu. Hotels near Nadi International Airport (NAN) or in Suva often offer transfer options to the airport. Many resorts on Kadavu also organize transfers from Kadavu Airport (KDV) to their accommodations, often by boat, making arrival after a long flight more pleasant.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Accordingly, plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as layover and departure times can change at short notice.
