Port information & tips for Fuerte Amador
Fuerte Amador is the fascinating gateway to the Panama Canal on the Pacific side and impresses with its spectacular location directly at the entrance of the world-famous waterway. The picturesque surroundings of the Amador Causeway connect four small islands and offer travelers a breathtaking view of the Panama City skyline and the glittering sea. Nearby, architectural masterpieces such as the colorful BioMuseo by Frank Gehry and the Punta Culebra Nature Center invite exciting discoveries. In addition, the palm-fringed waterfront promenade offers first-class restaurants and boutiques for lingering. Ships dock at the modern Fuerte Amador Cruise Terminal, from which the historic Casco Viejo district and the modern city center are easily accessible in about 15 to 20 minutes thanks to short transfer routes.
The port of Fuerte Amador is located at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal at the end of the picturesque Amador Causeway and is excellently connected to Panama City's infrastructure. Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region is via Tocumen International Airport (PTY), which is located around 30 kilometers from the port and offers direct flight connections from Frankfurt as well as convenient transfers via Madrid, Paris, or Amsterdam. Thanks to the well-developed infrastructure, guests can reach the terminal from the airport quickly and enjoy first views of the city's skyline along the way.
Transfer & Taxi
From Tocumen Airport, you can comfortably reach the Amador Causeway in about 45 to 60 minutes via the Corredor Sur toll road. Reliable authorized taxis, private transfer services from the cruise lines, and ride-sharing apps are available on-site, ensuring direct transport to the terminal building.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time from Europe and the time difference, arriving at least one day before embarkation is highly recommended. A stay in a hotel in the old town, Casco Viejo, or directly on the Causeway allows for a relaxed start to your vacation and also offers the opportunity to visit the famous Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal in advance.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
