Puerto Quetzal is Guatemala's most important seaport on the Pacific coast and serves as a central gateway to the country's cultural treasures. The extensive port facility has its own cruise terminal, which offers good connections to the capital and the region's historical centers.
Airplane
La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City is the main arrival point for guests from the DACH region and is served via international hubs such as Madrid, Frankfurt, or US airports. From the airport, you can reach the port, which is about 100 kilometers away, in around a two-hour drive via the well-developed CA-9 highway, which leads directly towards the coast.
Transfer & Shuttle
Comfortable private transfers and air-conditioned shuttle buses are available for the journey between the airport or Guatemala City and the port. Since there is no direct rail connection to the terminal, most travelers use the organized transfer offers from the cruise lines, which meet guests directly at the airport and guide them safely to check-in in Puerto Quetzal.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the longer flight time and the distance to the port, we recommend arriving at least one day before embarkation with an overnight stay in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Antigua. Many hotels in this picturesque colonial city offer special packages for cruise guests and organize reliable transfers that bring you to the terminal in about 90 minutes through the impressive volcanic landscape.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
