Dragon Hill, also known as Cerro Dragón, is a fascinating natural jewel on the northwest coast of Santa Cruz and is considered one of the most scenic places in the Galapagos Archipelago. The region impresses with its untouched volcanic landscape and an atmosphere of complete silence, where the unique fauna takes center stage. Along the circular trail, visitors discover a significant population of endemic land iguanas, observe elegant flamingos in the saline lagoons, and enjoy a spectacular panoramic view from the summit of the hill. Arrival is by wet landing directly at the natural Dragon Hill Landing Site, which is located far from the busy main town of Puerto Ayora and, thanks to this seclusion, enables an exclusive and authentic nature experience in the heart of the national park.
Travel to the exclusive visitor point Dragon Hill on Santa Cruz Island typically takes place via Seymour Airport on the neighboring island of Baltra, followed by land and water transfers. Since this destination is located in the northwest of Santa Cruz, guests usually reach the region comfortably as part of an expedition cruise starting from the island's central docks.
Airplane
For travelers from the DACH region, the journey first leads through the Ecuadorian metropolises of Quito (UIO) or Guayaquil (GYE), which are regularly served by European hubs such as Madrid or Amsterdam. From there, daily connecting flights depart for Seymour Airport (GPS) on Baltra, which serves as the main gateway to the Galápagos Islands thanks to its modern and ecological design.
Transfer & Shuttle
After landing on Baltra, use the official shuttle bus to the Itabaca Channel, where a short ferry crossing leads directly to Santa Cruz. From the landing point, you can reach the port city of Puerto Ayora or the northern piers comfortably in about 45 minutes by taxi or public bus, where you can board your expedition ship directly and set off toward Dragon Hill.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey and the strict schedules of the National Park Administration, an overnight stay in Quito or Puerto Ayora is recommended at least one day before embarkation. This allows for a relaxed start to your nature adventure and also offers the opportunity to explore the local infrastructure and the first sights of Santa Cruz in peace beforehand.
