Puerto Williams on Navarino Island is considered the southernmost city in the world and is a truly magical gateway to the untouched wilderness of Tierra del Fuego. The charming settlement impresses with its spectacular location on the Beagle Channel and offers an impressive natural backdrop for explorers thanks to the striking Dientes de Navarino mountain range. Cultural highlights include the Martin Gusinde Anthropological Museum and the legendary Micalvi Yacht Club, which is housed in a historical ship. Cruise ships use the central berthing facility Muelle Guardiamarina Zañartu, from which the compact town center can be reached in just a few minutes on foot, providing travelers with direct and convenient access to all sights and the unique atmosphere of this secluded paradise.
Puerto Williams on the Beagle Channel marks the southernmost outpost of South America and welcomes travelers amidst the untouched wilderness of Patagonia. Embarkation usually takes place at Muelle Guardián Brito, which is conveniently reachable within a few minutes thanks to its central location in town.
Airplane
Travel from the DACH region typically leads via Santiago de Chile (SCL) to Punta Arenas (PUQ), from where the airline DAP offers daily connections to Puerto Williams Airport (WWW). The domestic flight takes about an hour and, thanks to the low flight altitude, offers spectacular views of the Darwin Cordillera, while the transfer from the local island airport to the port takes only ten minutes.
Ship & Ferry
A particularly impressive alternative to flying is the ferry connection provided by the shipping company TABSA from Punta Arenas, which brings guests directly to the port in around 32 hours through the majestic island world of Tierra del Fuego. This passage allows for deep insights into the Patagonian fjords even before the actual cruise and, thanks to full board on guest service, ensures an atmospheric start to the adventure.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to weather-dependent flight connections and the long distance, we recommend arriving in Patagonia at least two days before embarkation and spending a night in Punta Arenas or directly in Puerto Williams. Many expedition cruise lines also coordinate the charter flight from Punta Arenas and the hotel stay as a fixed package, ensuring smooth logistics and maximum planning security.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
