Port information & tips for Recife

Recife is the pulsating heart of the Brazilian Northeast and delights as the "Venice of Brazil" with a unique network of bridges, canals, and colonial charm. Its location right on the Atlantic ensures a lively flair, while the historic old town, Recife Antigo, captivates with colorful architecture and a thrilling culture. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the magnificent Marco Zero square, the impressive Centro de Artesanato de Pernambuco, and the fascinating Paço do Frevo museum. Cruise ships dock at the modern Terminal Marítimo de Passageiros de Recife (Porto do Recife), which is located directly in the historic center. Thanks to this prime location, visitors can easily reach the most important sights on foot and immediately immerse themselves in the authentic Brazilian way of life.

Recife, the fascinating capital of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, is primarily accessible by plane for cruise passengers from the DACH region. The modern cruise terminal is centrally located in the historic district of Recife Antigo, allowing for short distances to the sights, even though passengers are often transferred by shuttles from the ship to the terminal area. An arrival one day before embarkation is recommended due to the long flight time, ensuring a relaxed start to your cruise adventure.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport (REC), located only about 9 kilometers from the cruise port. Airlines such as Lufthansa, Air France, and LATAM Airlines offer connections to Recife, often with a layover. The flight time from Germany to Recife is usually around 10 to 12 hours, excluding layover time.

Transfer & Shuttle

From REC airport, you can easily reach the cruise terminal by taxi or via ride-sharing services like Uber. A comfortable alternative is pre-booked private transfers, which offer direct door-to-door service to the port and are often equipped with amenities like Wi-Fi. Please note that at the port of Recife, you may need to use a short shuttle bus from the ship to the actual terminal area, as walking within the port area may be restricted.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long-haul flights from the DACH region, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel in Recife is highly recommended. This minimizes the risk of flight delays and allows you to acclimatize in peace before embarkation. Popular and well-reviewed hotels can be found especially in the Boa Viagem district, which is known for its beaches and offers good connections. Many hotels also offer flexible check-in times and convenient connections to the port.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
