Port information & tips for Belize
Belize City is the fascinating gateway to the world of the Maya and the second largest barrier reef on Earth. The city impresses with its colonial charm and a lively atmosphere that perfectly combines a sense of adventure with Caribbean serenity. Local historical highlights such as St. John’s Cathedral, the historic Baron Bliss Lighthouse, and the Museum of Belize invite guests to embark on exciting discoveries. Thanks to the short crossing by tender boat, guests reach the mainland comfortably at the Fort Street Tourism Village. This modern terminal is located directly in the center, so that sights, local markets, and the famous Swing Bridge can be reached directly on foot after just a few minutes' walk.
The port of Belize City is a central hub in the western Caribbean and, due to the shallow coastal waters, operates primarily as a tender port. Cruise guests from the DACH region can easily reach the Fort Street Tourism Village, located directly on the coast, following an international flight and a short transfer time.
Airplane
Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) is located approximately 17 kilometers northwest of the cruise terminal and is the most important arrival point for international guests. As there are no direct connections from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, arrival is usually relaxed via North American hubs such as Miami (MIA), Houston (IAH), or Dallas (DFW).
Transfer & Taxi
The onward journey from the airport to Fort Street Tourism Village is easily accomplished in about 25 to 30 minutes thanks to official taxis located directly in front of the terminal building. Trips are offered at fixed rates and lead via the well-maintained Philip Goldson Highway directly to the port; additionally, travelers can book private shuttle services or organized group transfers in advance for a direct arrival at the tender pier.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey across the Atlantic and the time difference, an overnight stay in Belize City before embarkation is highly recommended. Many hotels in the city center or in the Fort George district are located in the immediate vicinity of the Tourism Village and often offer their own hotel shuttle services, allowing guests to be particularly flexible for the short trip to the ship the next morning.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the voyage: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
