Muscat, the fascinating capital of Oman, is considered an oriental jewel and harmoniously combines centuries-old traditions with modern splendor. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the lively Mutrah Souq with its fragrant spices, as well as the magnificent Mutrah Corniche waterfront promenade and the majestic Al Alam Palace. Cruise ships dock at Port Sultan Qaboos in the historic district of Mutrah, from where the nearby center and the most important sights can be reached within a few minutes thanks to short distances or convenient shuttle connections.
Port Sultan Qaboos is located in the picturesque district of Muttrah and serves as a modern gateway to the Omani capital, Muscat. Thanks to its first-class infrastructure and proximity to the historical sights of the Old Town, guests can reach their cruise ship comfortably and quickly.
Airplane
Arrival from the DACH region is via Muscat International Airport (MCT), which is served directly from Frankfurt, Munich, and Zurich by Oman Air or Lufthansa. The airport is located approximately 32 kilometers west of the port, so travelers can reach their destination after a relaxed drive of around 30 to 40 minutes.
Transfer & Taxi
Air-conditioned taxis from the official providers Mwasalat or Marhaba are available at the airport around the clock for the journey to the terminal, leading directly to the port via Sultan Qaboos Street or the Muscat Expressway. In addition, transfers can easily be booked via apps such as Otaxi, with travel times remaining short thanks to the well-developed highways, allowing for direct arrival at the port entrance.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the flight duration of about seven hours and the time difference, arriving the day before is recommended to start your vacation in a relaxed manner. Many guests choose a hotel near the Muttrah Corniche or in the Ruwi district, as they can explore the famous Souq from there and only require a short drive to the terminal on the day of embarkation.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination area—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
