Port information & tips for Trondheim
Trondheim is Norway's historic coronation city and enchants visitors as one of the most charming metropolises of the North. The city is idyllically situated on the Trondheimfjord and impresses with a harmonious blend of medieval history, colorful wharf houses, and a vibrant, modern atmosphere. Absolute highlights include the imposing Nidarosdom, the photogenic Gamle Bybrua bridge, and the picturesque Bakklandet district with its cobblestone streets. Cruise ships dock at the centrally located Pier 1 (Pir-terminalen), from where the city center is easily reached in about ten to fifteen minutes on foot thanks to the excellent location, while also providing direct access to all the city's cultural treasures.
Trondheim is easily accessible from the DACH region thanks to its first-class infrastructure and central location in Central Norway. Cruise ships usually dock at Kai 68 in the modern Brattøra district, which impresses with short distances to major transport hubs and the historic old town.
Airplane
Trondheim Airport (TRD) is located approximately 32 kilometers east of the port and is regularly served from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland via the hubs of Oslo, Copenhagen, or Amsterdam. Onward travel to the cruise terminal is convenient with the Flybussen airport bus or the Vy regional train, which takes you directly to the nearby main station in about 35 minutes; taxis are also available for direct transfer.
Train
Trondheim S Central Station is the main arrival point for travelers and offers direct connections from Oslo via the Dovrebanen. Thanks to the modern Sjøgangen pedestrian bridge, you can reach the cruise area in Brattøra from the station grounds in just about 10 minutes on foot, with taxis alternatively available for the short distance to embarkation.
Car & Parking
The port is directly connected to the Norwegian long-distance road network via the well-developed E6 and E39 European routes, leading you straight into the Brattøra district. For the duration of your cruise, you will find secure parking options in the P-hus Brattøra parking garage as well as at other marked long-term parking lots in the immediate vicinity of the terminal, which can be conveniently paid for via apps such as SmartPark or EasyPark.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times may change at short notice.
