Port information & tips for Sortland

Sortland is the pulsating heart of the Vesterålen archipelago and is famous as the "Blue City" of the North. Nestled in a spectacular setting of majestic mountains and deep blue fjords, the town offers a unique maritime flair and an authentic Norwegian atmosphere. Highlights include the art project featuring blue-painted house facades, the modern Kulturfabrikken Sortland with its diverse exhibitions, and the impressive view of the striking Sortlandbrua. Cruise ships dock at the centrally located Sortland Sjøterminal, from where guests can easily reach the city center with its cozy shops and cafes in just a few minutes' walk thanks to the excellent location.

Sortland, the charming "Blue City" in the heart of the Vesterålen, offers cruise guests a convenient arrival, as the port is very centrally located and the city center is only a few minutes' walk away. A passenger terminal is available to travelers.

Airplane

For arrival from the DACH region, the airplane is the most efficient option. The nearest airport is Stokmarknes Skagen (SKN), only about 21 to 23 kilometers from Sortland. From there, you can reach the port comfortably with public bus 754 in around 25 minutes or by taxi in about 20 minutes. Another good choice is the larger Harstad/Narvik Airport (EVE), located about 90 minutes away, which offers more frequent connections, including from Oslo. An airport bus (Flybussen) operates between Evenes and Sortland.

Auto

Sortland is well connected to the Norwegian road network thanks to the European route E10. The Rv85 leads directly to the city and the port. Various options are available for parking near the port and in the city center. The Sortland Havn Parkplass is open year-round. In addition, the parking lot at Sortland Kvartal 8 – Bussterminalen offers spaces for a fee, with a maximum limit per 24 hours, as does the Sortland Handelspark with two hours of free parking.

Pre-Cruise Hotel & Relaxed Arrival

Due to the longer journey from the DACH region and possible connecting flights to Northern Norway, an overnight stay in Sortland or the surrounding area on the day before your embarkation is recommended. This allows for a relaxed start to your cruise without time pressure during the journey. Many hotels in the region are geared toward cruise guests and provide a pleasant base for exploring the beauty of the Vesterålen before departure.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination area – is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
