Skjolden is located at the innermost end of the picturesque Lustrafjord and stands out as the emerald green gateway to the impressive Jotunheimen and Breheimen National Parks. The idyllic atmosphere is characterized by snow-capped peaks and crystal-clear water, while cultural highlights such as the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Urnes Stave Church or the majestic Feigumfossen waterfall underline the unique beauty of the region. In addition, the untouched Møridsdalen valley invites you to discover nature. Cruise ships dock at the modern Skjolden Cruise Pier, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the charming village center and, thanks to its central location, allows for a convenient, short walk to local cafés and small shops.
Skjolden is located at the picturesque end of the Lustrafjord, the innermost branch of the Sognefjord, and welcomes guests directly at the Eidsbrua Quay in the town center. Thanks to the compact structure of the port, all important facilities and the surrounding nature are easily accessible on foot from the pier.
Airplane
The regional Sogndal Airport (SOG) is approximately 60 kilometers away and offers fast connections for travelers from the DACH region via the Oslo hub. From Sogndal, you can reach the port in about an hour's drive by rental car or taxi, while the larger Bergen International Airport (BGO) is reachable in approximately four to five hours via impressive mountain passes.
Car
Arrival by private vehicle is via the Norwegian Scenic Route RV55, one of the most spectacular mountain roads in Europe, or via the E16 through the famous Lærdal Tunnel. Parking is available directly in the center of Skjolden as well as in the immediate vicinity of the quay; additionally, local providers offer spaces for guests who wish to park their car safely during an expedition.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the remote location in the Fjordland, arriving the day before is highly recommended and can be ideally combined with an overnight stay in one of the historic local hotels. This allows you to enjoy a relaxed morning by the fjord and reach the terminal after a short walk, with time left for a visit to the nearby Urnes Stave Church or the Nigardsbreen glacier.
